Usually only one retailer will list a placeholder release date for a game. For Mafia 3 though, several retailers have posted up the same release date. Could it be real?
As reported by IGN, an image from a Best Buy store shows that the game could be coming out on April 26th, 2016. This date was listed on a game cover and not on the website.
However, the same release date for Mafia 3 was listed on the websites for both Gamestop and even Amazon too. All of them show the exact April 26th, 2016 release date. This must be more than just a simple prediction or coincidence.
However, Take Two sent this statement to IGN: “Mafia III will release in calendar 2016 during Take-Two Interactive’s fiscal year 2017. No official release date has been announced at this time. It is common practice for retailers to list placeholder dates before an official release date has been announced due to the requirements of their operating systems.”
It’s possible the release date could have been an early projection. As we all know, release dates are not final and the game could be delayed at the last minute. An open-world game like Mafia 3 could easily get delayed so we’ll have to wait and see. The game is still anticipated to be out in the calendar year of 2016 though.
