Psyonix has announced that the highly anticipated February update for Rocket League will arrive “in about a week”. This patch will end Season 1 of the game, giving players their reward based on placement within the ranked playlists. It will also reset rankings based on internal metrics, set up a new ranking system, and begin Season 2 of the game, among the usual bug fixes and smaller content additions.
This patch will hit the PC and PS4 versions of the game, with the Xbox One edition still being worked on with a planned release date in the middle of the month. That version of Rocket League will be slightly different than those on PS4 and PC, as it will not feature cross-platform multiplayer, and will have some exclusive cosmetic content, such as vehicles and decorations based on Halo, Gears of War, and Sunset Overdrive.
Rocket League Season 2 will alter the ranking system in a number of ways, changing the names of the ranks, while also making it so that individual games aren’t as important. Until now, each game of Rocket League would give you points for a victory, and deduct points for a loss. Instead the ranking will work more like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which tracks your overall performance to decide if you are playing well enough to be moved up to the next level.
With the conclusion of Rocket League Season 1, players will receive a crown based on their rank within the playlists. Only the highest rank achieved will be used to determine your reward, so if you have a single Gold ranking you will receive the Bronze, Silver, and Gold crowns, but not the Platinum (few players will). If you’ve squeaked into the Gold I ranking, as I did with my wonderful 701 Doubles score, then you might want to avoid that playlist until after the update.
