Some sad news for PSP and PS Vita owners because Sony will no longer support the Skype app for both platforms. You won’t be able to use it at all later this year.
Sony announced on the support website:Â “On 22 June 2016, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. will end support for the Skype application for PlayStation Vita and the Skype feature for PSP (PlayStation Portable).
From 22 March 2016, the Skype application for PlayStation Vita will be removed from PlayStation Store. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we appreciate your understanding.”
It’s surprising that the PSP Skype app lasted so long as that became available since 2008 or so. Sadly, the app was not supported as long for PS Vita owners since that console only came out in early 2012.
The PS Vita already lost support for other apps like Facebook and YouTube. This is a sign that the console is no longer being used by many people. Sony has not really advertised the portable console in recent months as focused has shifted to the PS4 and PlayStation VR instead. If you used Skype a lot on PSP or PS Vita, you can always just use it on a smartphone or tablet.
