Nintendo has finally launched their game/social network app Miitomo in the US. However, like any big launch, there are problems, and these ones seem rather large and widespread. The Miitomo app seems to be crashing for many, both at startup and during certain points in the app. There are a few root causes to the problem, though many are impacted even without a specific reason. (See fixes added at the bottom)
First of all, if you have a rooted Android phone or jailbroken iPhone then there is a high chance that this is causing Miitomo crashing for you. This is unfortunately common among mobile apps, with many having specific checks to see if they are running on a rooted or jailbroken phone. Whether this is the case here, or it’s a simple case of the root causing the crash by accident isn’t clear. Luckily these can usually be patched up quickly.
However, some users, such as myself, are seeing constant crashes even without a rooted or jailbroken phone. Many had previously rooted their phone, with that likely being the cause. Still, some have never messed with their phone to that extent, and the Mittomo app is still crashing. The cause of these will be much harder to pinpoint for Nintendo, though with this many reports, hopefully they get it sorted out soon.
UPDATE 2:Â Some better solutions from Reddit…
To bypass on iOS: Install xCon Beta from Cydia.
To bypass on Android: Install Xposed (there are plenty of guides on how to do this that explain it better than I could.) Then, install the RootCloak and MiitomoSecurityBypasser Xposed modules. In the Xposed Installer app, enable both RootCloak and MiitomoSecurityBypasser. Open the RootCloak app, tap “Add/Remove Apps”, press the “+” on the top bar and select Miitomo. Reboot your phone and attempt to run Miitomo.
