Rocket League has truly been the little indie game that could. Going from a relatively unknown sequel to the underappreciated Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars on the PS3, the game is now a household name, with thousands of players logging on each and every day. All of those players have added up to total sales of over 14 million units according to the game’s developer Psyonix.

The announcement came today via Twitter, with the team saying “Fantastic news! Rocket League has now passed 14 million players. Our gratitude is real. Thank you very much, everyone!” This number almost certainly encompasses all three platforms that Rocket League is currently available on, namely PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

On PS4, Rocket League racked up millions of sales very early on thanks to being a free game for all PlayStation Plus subscribers. This quickly built up a fervent community of players. Word of mouth quickly spread and gamers across the globe grabbed copies of Rocket League, along with its cosmetic DLC packages.

This 14 million sales figure doesn’t break down the three systems, but it’s safe to assume that PS4 is in the lead thanks to the PS Plus promotion. PC likely follows suit, with Xbox One trailing due to it being the last system to receive the game. Still, sales seem to continue going strong, so we could see even higher milestones passed in the near future.
