Microsoft made a lot of big announcements at their E3 2016 press conference. A new consoles, another new console, and a bunch of new features for Xbox gamers. One of these announcements seemed pretty strange for longtime fans of console gaming though, with Microsoft revealing the Xbox Play Anywhere program. Some lofty promises were made, but the implications weren’t fully revealed at the press conference. At E3 2016 we followed up on this feature, and found out that Halo 6, and all other Microsoft titles will be released on Windows 10 PC.
This might seem to be logical if you take everything Microsoft said at face value. However, the idea that the Xbox One is totally moving past exclusives is very odd for most console gamers. The assumption was that a lot of games would be available on PC, but that they would hold back a few exclusives just to keep people engaged in the Xbox One platform. This isn’t the case though.
In a behind-closed-doors session at E3 2016 Xbox’s Tom Langan stated that “every [first party] title, starting with Recore, will support Play Anywhere.” Hearing this I was still skeptical, so I specifically asked about Halo 6, or other big Microsoft owned franchises. He replied “all the future titles in our roadmap, so everything you saw in our show, and all the way out including things you didn’t see at the show, like Crackdown 3 and Sea of Thieves.”
Admittedly, it’s not a “yes, Halo 6 will be on PC”, however, it seems like Microsoft is going all-in with Windows 10 gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere. Their “roadmap” isn’t clear to us, and almost certainly includes Halo 6, among other unannounced games. Unless they decide to go against their statement that “all future [first party] titles will be available on PC” then Windows 10 gamers have some great Halo action in their future, as well as some other possible surprises.
