Pokemon Go is starting to roll out in difference parts of the world, and with that are many people downloading to see what all the fuss is about. With it being the first Pokemon mobile game, we’re excited to get our hands on it, but it sounds like there may be one big negative for those using it so far.
According to a report by Kotaku, Pokemon Go appears to be badly draining the batteries of devices it is installed upon. They even point directly to the developer Nicantic’s official website that mentions that the game has “Heavy Battery Use” with the following description.
“Some devices may experience battery drain while playing Pokémon GO for prolonged periods of time. We are working on a solution.”
This is pretty much to be expected with such a big game like this that utilizes GPS and everything. However, just how bad it is draining batteries is definitely a problem that Nicantic has to fix, which thankfully they are.
Actions such as dimming the screen and turning off the sound are a few recommendations to conserve battery life, but it is still likely going to drain it pretty fast.
Obviously, your mileage may vary though, as it also depends on what else you have installed on your phone and the normal battery drain from the other apps. Either way, we look forward to trying the game when it rolls out here, and we can see first hand how the battery life issues are at that point.
