While Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is set to launch early next year, there’s still a lot of information we don’t know about the game. We still haven’t gotten an official trailer showing us who the protagonist is, and outside of an ESRB description we have very little to go on in terms of the game’s plot.
However, one of the biggest questions still looming with Resident Evil fans was whether or not the game would feature series-favorite characters from previous games in the series. While it’s still possible that it might, we seem to have confirmation that one of the biggest characters has no direct involvement with it.
The character in question is Leon S. Kennedy, whose voice actor Matt Mercer recently spoke with GameSpot about Resident Evil 7. He said that he thinks Capcom is “scaling back a little bit on throwing in all the classic cameos. I can say that I don’t have any involvement in [Resident Evil] 7 directly.”
He goes on to say that he thinks “it’s also good of them, especially coming off of [Resident Evil 6] and its lukewarm reception, to go ahead and re-establish their roots and maybe start an original story. And if they decide that that does well, maybe they can then marry it in with the previous stories.”
Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is set to launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on January 24th.
