While Destiny launched a couple of years ago to a mixed reception, the game was able to change some people’s minds with the following expansions that fixed some of the problems that people had. However, despite the game being in a better place now than it was at launch, it looks like the next game will be taking things much further.

Several sources including Kotaku and NeoGAF are claiming that Bungie is aiming to make Destiny 2 feel like a completely new experience compared to the first one. “D2 is a completely different game. The Taken King was a reboot for Destiny 1 to fix small things. This is the overhaul to fix big things.” Some have likened the leap to the one featured from Diablo to Diablo 2.

This will apparently be spearheaded by “play-in destinations,” which will shake up Destiny’s world with populated towns and quests that will feel much more alive than the first game.

It was also confirmed that most of Bungie’s 750 staff are currently working on Destiny 2, which is being directed by The Taken King director Luke Smith. It is also suggested that the game will be launching sometime in 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
