After an extremely long wait, Bethesda announced that Fallout 4 mods on PS4 had been cancelled due to some behind-the-scenes issues with Sony. Though they said they would continue working on getting the highly anticipated feature onto the console, hopes were quite low. Well it seems that Bethesda was extra lucky, or worked extra hard, because they have announced today that Fallout 4 mods, along with Skyrim Remastered mods, are coming to PS4 once again, along with some extra special bonuses.
“We’re excited to announce that mod support is coming to PlayStation 4 for both Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4. Additionally, we’ll also be supporting the new PlayStation 4 Pro with both titles.” What does that last part mean? I’ll let the announcement explain. “Skyrim will have these features when it launches on October 28. The new power of the PlayStation 4 Pro has allowed us to make Skyrim render in native 4k, and it looks better than ever. Here are some screens to show you just how great it looks.”
The only limitation on Fallout 4 PS4 mods seems to be that users cannot upload external assets to be used in the game. Instead they’ll have to rely on the assets already available in the Creation Kit, which is used to create mods for all platforms.
Mod support will come first to Skyrim Remastered when it launches on October 28th. A Fallout 4 update will then come later to add the feature there. “We expect Fallout 4 to take advantage of the PS4 Pro in 4k along with enhanced lighting and graphics features,” reads the announcement.
