Tom Clancy’s The Division debuted earlier this year to much hype, which led to very impressive daily active user numbers at launch. However, after some baffling decisions with updates, the user base quickly died down, but the game’s latest major update may have turned the game’s fortunes around.
In an interview with PCGamesN, Ubisoft’s VP of live operations Anne Blondel discussed the recent 1.4 patch update for The Division that helped to reset a lot of the issues people had with the game, which she says has caused a massive uptick in the number of daily active users.
Blondel said that the number of daily active users is back up to the numbers at launch, which is due to how impressed people have been by the new update.
“Some players left the game earlier than what we thought, then we had to make that tough call – do we keep providing them with extra content or do we stop everything for a while, settle down, fix everything and then once the game is where it should be, then we start providing more content.
It’s kind of hard to believe the numbers would shoot up that much in such a short time, but we already saw earlier this year how much updates and DLC can help to increase a player base, such as with Rainbow Six Siege.
I know I was one of the players that was very addicted to The Division for awhile, but quickly fell off around the time most did. However, this definitely has me intrigued and I plan on jumping back in to give it a try.
