EA is giving away games once again via their On the House promotion on PC. This time it is Mass Effect 2, considered by many to be one of the greatest games of all time. The timing of this release makes perfect sense with the final announcement of the Mass Effect Andromeda release date. Click here to get Mass Effect 2 for free on PC.

“Fight the Reapers – for free! Arm yourself and prepare for an unforgettable intergalactic adventure. Add this critically-acclaimed role-playing game to your library for free. It’s On the House!” Now you just need to figure out how to get the Mass Effect 2 DLC for cheap.

Mass Effect 2 took the RPG framework of the first game and reshaped it into a more action oriented title. This, of course, led to many fans being upset at the changes. However, the end result was one of the best action-RPG’s ever made, creating a formula that has been copied by countless games since.

Its sequel, Mass Effect 3, garnered its own controversy thanks to its contentious ending. While the ME series was all about choices and the impact they have on the world and characters surrounding you, the end of the entire series came down to a simple choice that seemed to have little consequence beyond the end cutscene. Some DLC definitely helped, though arguments still wage online about how well Mass Effect 3 wrapped up the story of Commander Shepard and his crew.

Mass Effect Andromeda seems to get away from this by starring whole new characters in a brand new galaxy. Moving out of the Milky Way will be jarring, but should offer new gameplay and story opportunities for the series. Whether it pays off or not is the big question. We should find out when Mass Effect Andromeda launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 21st.
