The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Officially Announced for Nintendo Switch

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has officially been announced for the Nintendo Switch by Bethesda. Yes, we all sort of knew it was coming after it made a background appearance in the Nintendo Switch reveal video, but it’s still good to have full confirmation.

The announcement came partway through the Nintendo Switch live streaming event from Japan, heralding the occasion with the classic music and visuals of Skyrim. Bethesda’s Todd Howard made the reveal himself via a pre-recorded video. Along with Howard discussing why Skyrim is a good fit for Nintendo Switch, he also discussed the creativity and imagination that the console manufacturer is known for.

Skyrim has been a massive hit ever since it launched in 2011. It has sold millions of copies since then, across PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, but also on PS4 and Xbox One via the recently release Skyrim Special Edition, which offered improved visuals and performance on the current-gen consoles.

While Skyrim and the Elder Scrolls series has always been hugely successful, it has always skipped Nintendo consoles. Likely due to the third party support issues found on Gamecube, Wii, and Wii U, none of the previously released Elder Scrolls games, or any Bethesda game for that matter, has made its way to a Nintendo console. Skyrim makes sense as the first one, as it has become synonymous with Bethesda and their style of RPGs.

We didn’t get a release date for Skyrim on Nintendo Switch, but expect it soon as the console hits stores on March 3rd.
