The long-awaited Resident Evil 7 has finally been released, and it unsurprisingly has been getting a lot of attention since its launch earlier this week. Capcom has announced that 2.5 million copies of the game have already shipped to retailers, which has been thanks to the game’s fantastic marketing and reception that it has received so far.

The publisher also notes how the new engine that they built for this game allowed them to create something truly special, saying “with the new RE ENGINE, a proprietary game engine developed in-house for this title, Capcom has pushed hardware specifications to their limits. As a result, the title garnered attention worldwide, with the demo version exceeding 7.15 million downloads — a record for the series — and the game selling more than 2.5 million units.”

Even though the game just came out, there’s already a considerable amount of DLC that will be coming to the game at the end of this month and in the middle of next month. The DLC will be coming to PlayStation 4 first, with Banned Footage Vol. 1 coming to PlayStation 4 on January 31st before coming to Xbox One and PC on February 21st. That one costs $10, but is also a part of the game’s $30 season pass. Banned Footage Vol. 2 will be coming to PlayStation 4 on February 14th before coming to Xbox One and PC on February 21st, with this one costing $15.

Despite the aforementioned content being paid, Capcom does have DLC coming to the game later in the year that will be free across all platforms. This DLC will be called Not a Hero, though beyond some unofficial tips there was nothing else about this content that was confirmed.

Resident Evil 7 is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. If you were hoping that the game might eventually end up on Nintendo Switch then you’re out of luck, as Capcom has previously said that they have no plans to bring the game to Nintendo’s new console.
