One of the best games of 2016 was easily Blizzard’s hero shooter Overwatch, which brought a new twist to the shooter formula that many people couldn’t get enough of. That game hasn’t been losing any momentum in the new year, either, as now the game has reached yet another impressive milestone.
Developer Blizzard announced on Twitter that the game has broken the 25 million player mark, which is a feat that just about any game out there would be thrilled to achieve. However, Blizzard has been doing a lot on their part to keep their users happy and engaged, regularly rolling out new balancing updates and new content to keep things interesting.
Speaking of balancing updates, one of the biggest character changes that have come to the game recently was the nerfing of D.Va, a character that many players have complained about since the beginning. What Blizzard decided to do was to reduce her health to make her easier to take down, though also increase her firing consistency. “With lowered armor, she now has more legitimate counters and she still counters many heroes and abilities in the game, especially considering her Defense Matrix wasn’t touched,” said Blizzard in a post on the game’s forums.
Overwatch is currently in the middle of its Year of the Rooster event, which is being done to celebrate the Chinese New Year. It adds 124 exclusive cosmetics, seasonal Loot Boxes, and an exclusive new mode called Capture the Rooster. As you may have guessed, the name is a play on the common capture the flag game type that has players trying to capture the other team’s flag and return it to their base. The Year of the Rooster event kicked off on January 24th and will come to a conclusion on February 13th.
Overwatch is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
