Details Of Nintendo Switch Day 1 System Update Have Been Revealed

Only a few months after being first announced, the Nintendo Switch is mere days from launching around the world. Rather than hold a Nintendo Direct to give further information about the system, we’ve had to rely on details provided by Nintendo through other means. It was recently revealed that there would be a day one system update that would add features like the eShop, and now we know a bit more about that patch.

For those in the media that have a Nintendo Switch right now, it is essentially a The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild machine, along with if they were provided any other physical games. This is because the eShop is not even accessible yet. However, that will change with a day one patch, along with some other additions.

With Nintendo not giving much info about this patch, NintendoEverything contacted them directly and was told what to expect from the day one patch.

This patch will first of all activate the Nintendo eShop on the Switch, as well as online gameplay, the ability to share images via social media, being able to link Nintendo Accounts, and more.

One concern that people have had is the lack of web browser, as that is how some networks require you to sign-in, but it was confirmed that this update would add something that would allow you to “connect online using hotspots that require authentication, such as at a hotel or café. A web applet will open up so the user can sign-in or accept terms of use.”

The good news about this system update is that Nintendo claims it will be quick and not disrupt gameplay, as it will download in the background. This means you should be able to pop in one of your Nintendo Switch games that you buy at launch and be playing as it updates.

The update is supposed to officially go live just before the system launches, so it should be good to go as soon as somebody gets that first console at midnight on March 3. For now, all we can do is wait and see what else will be added in this first system update for the Nintendo Switch
