Red Dead Redemption 2 ‘Leak’ Turns Out to be an MMO Set in the Wild West

An image recently leaked onto multiple forums across the web that looked like it could be related to Red Dead Redemption 2.  As it turns out, this is not the case.  That image in case (above), isn’t from Red Dead Redemption 2, but from a completely different game.

That game is called Wild West Online, it’s an open world PvP MMO.  The image debunked by a preview recently up on PC Gamer outlines what could be a pretty exciting MMO that’s being built exclusive for PC.

Published by DJ2, Wild West Online is going to take to Kickstarter at the end of this month to try and raise cash to kick development into overdrive.  While the core is already is already being worked on, and slated for later this year according to the interview, the Kickstarter is looking to raise cash to expand features for the game.

There’s a reason that this image looked so much like Red Dead Redemption.  612 Ganes has taken inspiration from Rockstar’s classic, and is looking to fill a void that’s been around for about 7 years, since Rockstar has refused to release the original Red Dead Redemption on PC.

“There’s an audience for this that just wasn’t being served on PC,” Bugaj tells PC Gamer. “So we wanted to make this big, open Wild West world with a bit of a twist that, like the best MMOs, is a place where people can really live in.”

The core mechanics don’t quite sound like a traditional MMO.  Players will be able to perform many different activities in the Old West.  They can specialize as prospectors, farmers, and other jobs that funnel into the world economy.  The complete run-down sounds like a mix between your traditional MMO and something like a mix between GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption’s multiplayer component.

It starting to sound like 2017 is the year of the Western.  Red Dead Redemption 2, that rumored Far Cry game set in the Wild West, and now Wild West Online.
