PS Vita Final Specs Remain Undisclosed

There has been plenty of speculation recently about Sony’s PS Vita handheld and its to-be announced final system specs.  Rumors arose earlier in the week about a possible RAM cut that would reduce some of the cost associated with manufacturing the handheld gaming device.  While multiple sources both confirmed and denied these intial reports, it appears that there is no definite understanding of if there has been a cut or not, because Sony has never actually released the system specifications in the first place.

The most recent rumors that surfaced out of development houses were that the handheld would come with 512Mb of RAM with the most recent speculations seeing 256Mb which would signal a reduction.  Develop Online posed the question to Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida, and Yoshida told the magazine “Do not believe everything you read on the internet”.

PS Vita developers have not helped clarify the situation either, one such developer went on the record to state that a memory reduction wouldn’t affect the output on the device.  Though Novarama’s Dani Sanchez-Crespo quickly backtracked on those comments, emphasizing that he had no knowledge of a possible memory reduction.

Sony has a much clearer picture of the competition that they will be facing when the PS Vita releases, after Nintendo dropped the bombshell announcement of the 3DS price cut.  Sony seeing Nintendo’s misfortune and error in bringing a handheld to market that was too costly, could be doing some revising.  It’s not uncommon for a system specifications to be altered leading up to the release of a console, but we are getting awfully close to the anticipated release of the handheld.

Tokyo Game Show is just around the corner, and we could get more clarification on the final details of the system there.
