Square Enix has detailed the content of the upcoming Patch 4.2, named Rise of a New Sun, which expands the the Stormblood expansion by adding new story content, raids, and performing some gameplay adjustments. The main scenario follows the recovery of Ala Mhigo, which is suddenly threatened a great power that is coming from the Far East. New dungeons include Hell’s Lid and The Fractal Continuum (Hard).

But perhaps the most interesting content for hardcore Final Fantasy fans will be the continuation of the Omega: Sigmascape raid, which will feature bosses and locations from the SNES classic Final Fantasy VI. Those include the iconic Phantom Train, and the Empire laboratory. And if this wasn’t exciting enough, the end of the trailer presents the very special appearance by the evil Kefka. If you can’t wait until the update arrives, remember that you can play against Kefka and other Final Fantasy villains on the open beta of Dissidia: Final Fantasy NT this weekend on PS4.

There will also be a side story titled The Jade Stoa, and here is the official synopsis: “Legend tells of a peerless samurai who, at the behest of a king, ventured forth to drive a host of oni into the sea. Yet for all his strength, Tenzen could not do this alone, and so he turned to the Four Lords─greatest of the auspices─for assistance. Together they succeeded, and afterwards journeyed west, far from the realms of men, to live out their days in solitude. A faerie tale, perhaps…but often in such tales a kernel of truth can be found.”

The FFXIV team also seems decided to tackle the housing problem of the game, putting new limitations for users to resell their plots. The game will now give priority to users who don’t own a plot yet when purchasing one, and it will make those unavailable to resell for a time, in order to put barriers to those who only use the housing market in their benefit. That said, these measures will be reviewed some time after the patch launches, so they may change in the future. For additional notes, visit the official website of the Patch 4.2.

The Patch 4.2 Rise of the New Sun of Final Fantasy XIV launches on January 30. Watch the new trailer below.
