One of the most well-received Switch games from last year was Square Enix’s RPG Octopath Traveler. In fact, the game apparently did well enough to warrant the development of two new games coming to the series.
Square Enix recently announced on their Japanese website that a new Octopath Traveler game is currently being developed for iOS and Android devices and will be free-to-play. Not too many details on the upcoming mobile game were given, but it was revealed that it will be a prequel to the original Switch game and will see the return of such features as the original’s iconic HD-2D graphics and the eight party-member system. A trial demo of the this new game is set to become available in Japan on March 12, though a full release date beyond 2019 has yet to be revealed and it is currently unknown if this game will make its way out of Japan to other territories.
In addition to this mobile game, the Japanese Octopath Traveler Twitter page also recently revealed that a new console game in the series is currently being developed, but that it probably won’t release for quite some time. It was not stated what console (or consoles) the new console game will be available on, though it seems likely that it will be a Switch exclusive like its predecessor.
