Back in February’s Nintendo Direct, it was teased that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would be receiving a large 3.0 update sometime this spring, though no details were given at the time. Now, in a surprise video, the upcoming update has been detailed.
Nintendo recently uploaded a new video detailing exactly what fans can expect from the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 3.0 update. The previously leaked Stage Builder mode was confirmed, which will allow players to make their own stages, similar to how they could in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. You’ll be able to use the Switch’s touch screen to draw your own platforms, as well as include moving platforms and add decorations to your stages’ backgrounds. The update will also include a Video Editor, which will allow players to edit together videos from recorded gameplay sessions, including adding transitions and subtitles.
This update will also allow players to share content, such as custom stages, Mii Fighters, and videos, online with other players. Obviously, this will require the player to subscribe to the Switch’s online service. Also, a new feature called Smash World will be available on the Nintendo Switch Online app that will allow users to look through recommended videos and stages from their phones. You can then add stages you want to download to a queue, so you remember to download them the next time you start up the game.
In addition to the 3.0 update, a number of other things are also coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at the same time, including the Joker Challenger Pack and some extra Mii Fighter costumes. All this is set to come to the game tomorrow, April 17.
