Sony faced a couple of big hurdles when competing with Microsoft and Nintendo in this generation. Â For one, they launched with a price point that many found exorbitant. Â They also gave their competition a one year head start in the sales department. Â Apparently though, Sony has learned their lesson from this generation, and they won’t be making the same mistake twice.
Since rumors have been running wild about next generation offerings from Sony and Microsoft, Sony has decided to throw another log on that fire and let us know that it would be “undesirable” to launch the PlayStation 4 significantly later than the competition in a recent interview with Eurogamer. Â There’s still no concrete announcements from either the Sony or Microsoft camps about the timing of next generation consoles.
Analysts believe that the consoles will stretch all the way to 2014, but other rumors suggest that the consoles could be on the way much sooner than that… like next year. Â Nintendo is planning on launching the Wii U in 2012 and hopes to invade the “core” demographic. Â While both companies have downplayed the launch of the Wii U as a reason to evoke next generation systems from either Sony or Microsoft, you can bet that neither company wants to let Nintendo get out too far ahead.
