Rumors and leaks started circling the internet yesterday claiming that the next Call of Duty title coming from Infinity Ward is going to be a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare of 2019.
Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s sequel was found as a part of Nvidia’s GeForce Now leaked games and is reportedly codenamed Project Cortez. According to the leak Project Cortez is currently in development by Infinity Ward and published by Activision.
According to VGC, Project Cortez is, in fact, the sequel to 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Interestingly, according to these rumors, the Modern Warfare sequel is set to include a campaign mode where US Special Forces will fight a covert war against Columbian drug cartels.
SPOILER ALERT: What makes these rumors and leaks even more likely to be true is the post-credits scene of Modern Warfare 2019 where CIA supervisor Kate Laswell ended up granting Captain Price the authority and resources to start a new off-the-books military unit. If Infinity Ward is already developing their next title, it would very much be likely that they will capitalize on that scene and what it builds up.
It is worth remembering that nothing is expected to be officially announced any time soon by Activision, especially that Call of Duty: Vanguard is yet to be released later this year. However, given that the leaks and several rumors are lining up and not conflicting, the likelihood for them to be valid is higher than usual.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available for purchase on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. You can also pre-order Call of Duty: Vanguard through the game’s official website.
