Developers have their ears finely tuned to the news coming out of video game media outlets on a daily basis.  They hear the rumors and the gossip, and apparently Crytek has heard about the rumors of next generation systems  like the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4 giving the heave-ho to used games, and they’re absolutely fine with it.

Being a PC first developer with a large following of PC Gamers, the Crysis franchise already sees its fair share of piracy concerns.  Crysis 2 saw its unfinished PC version hit the web well ahead of the official release.  While the company deals with these concerns, it also has to fight falling profits from the used games market as well.

So its no big surprise that Crytek thinks it would be “awesome” to eliminate used games sales.  In a recent interview with CVG, Crytek’s Rasmus Hojengaard voiced his sentiments on the possibility of eliminating the used games market.

“From a business perspective that would be absolutely awesome,” said Hojengaard.  “It’s weird that second-hand is still allowed because it doesn’t work like that in any other software industries, so it would be great if they could somehow fix that issue… The worst thing that can happen is they make something that’s very complex for developers, regardless of how awesome it might theoretically be.”

Crysis 3 is set to arrive in 2013, and by the time it does, hopefully we’ll have some new intel about what to expect from Next Generation consoles as well.
