EA will yet again be going up against Call of Duty this fall. 2012 won’t afford Electronic Arts the luxury that it had last year with a highly anticipated numbered sequel in Battlefield 3. Despite Medal of Honor being a long running franchise for EA, 2010 was somewhat of revival for the forgotten brand. Medal of Honor 2010 brought players into a modern era, and took a unique stance in its brand of story telling in the single player department.
One analyst isn’t so sure about Medal of Honor: Warfighter’s chances this fall. In a recently released research paper, Cowen research analyst Doug Creutz has slashed his sales estimates for the shooter. Creutz is attributing the “poor quality” of 2010’s release and believes that it will lead to dismal sales for the sequel.
“This is based on a very soft performance since E3 in Amazon’s top-selling game rankings compared to other recent titles,” says Creutz. That’s certainly a far cry from the huge numbers that Battlefield 3 put up, releasing just days before the biggest release of the year, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
It will be a shame if shooter fans pass on Medal of Honor: Warfighter without giving it a chance. Having played it briefly at E3 2012, the multiplayer aspects of the shooter have been completely revamped, and Danger Close is doing some interesting things with loadouts, perks, and buddy system. We’ll have to wait and see if these new projections turn out true or not following Medal of Honor: Warfighter’s October release.
