A lot of things happened at the end of Captain America: Civil War. There were also a lot of developments in the middle of the movie that will shake things up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s interesting to see where things will be going in future films.

Bear in mind this article will be talking about a lot of spoilers in Captain America: Civil War. If you have not seen the movie yet, click away right now. This is your last warning. If you have seen it, feel free to comment on what you think might happen in the future.

Spoilers ahead: First of all, there is a tease earlier in the film about the power of the Soul Gem that is embedded in the forehead of Vision. Vision is talking to Scarlet Witch about it and is not sure of how powerful it really is.

Later in the film we see that the Soul Gem is quite powerful as Vision inadvertently strikes War Machine out of the sky with it. Thankfully War Machine didn’t die, although he got paralysed from it. Thanos did not appear in Captain America: Civil War, but we do know he’ll want to find the Soul Gem in time for Infinity War. Vision better be ready for Thanos.

The rest of The Avengers are a bit scattered at the moment. Before we see the mid and post credit scenes, Captain America breaks out Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, Hawkeye and Falcon out of prison. All of them were held captive by General Ross as they were arrested for disobeying government orders by helping out The Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes who is a fugitive. While those characters are free, Baron Zemo has been arrested for pulling the strings and forcing the Avengers to battle one another.

Tony Stark/Iron Man was defeated by Captain America and Bucky Barnes and retreats back to his headquarters. The only Avengers left are War Machine and Vision at this point. Black Widow is somewhat on the run too as she helped Captain America and Bucky escape during the airport fight.

However, Captain America sends out a letter to Tony Stark to apologize about everything that has been going on. He only did the things he did in order to save his friend Bucky since Bucky was being brainwashed. Captain America leaves a cellphone to Stark so he can call him whenever he needs help. This is a private cellphone not under any government surveillance.

At this point, most of the characters in Captain America: Civil War are fugitives apart from Iron Man, War Machine, Vision, Spider-Man and Black Panther. Captain America and Bucky Barnes are in hiding in Wakanda thanks to the help of Black Panther. It will be interesting to see if other characters show up in the Black Panther movie.

The movie did not show us where Ant-Man, Falcon, Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch are after Captain America broke them out of prison. It’s possible they will be hiding from the Government until they are needed again when Thanos comes around in Avengers: Infinity War. The same thing can be said for Black Widow.

Marvel may have made most of the characters fugitives as a way to explain their absences in upcoming Marvel movies. The upcoming films before Infinity War are Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther.

Some of the characters’ absences are obvious as some of the films won’t take place on Earth such as Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Thor: Ragnarok. Some might return for Spider-Man: Homecoming and Black Panther from the looks of things.

Spider-Man has a great relationship with Iron Man and it was already confirmed that Robert Downey Jr will be in Homecoming. Tony Stark built him his cool suit as he only had a poor looking costume before that.

Anyway, I found it interesting that most of the characters in Captain America: Civil War are now on the run from the Government. The Government might forgive them once Thanos coming down to Earth finding the Soul Gem that lies in Vision’s head. Once Thanos has all the Infinity Stones along with the Infinity Gauntlet, he’ll be the most powerful being in the Universe.

I also forgot to mention that none of the characters in this movie know of the whereabouts of both Thor and Hulk. Thor is likely back at Asgard as he wants to find out more about the Infinity Stones. Hulk could also be up in space as it doesn’t sound like he’s on Earth. Bruce Banner felt Earth would be safer without the Hulk around.
