The MultiVersus Closed Alpha has recently come to a close, and some fans feel that Batman was a little underpowered compared to the rest of the roster. There are some incredibly powerful fighters in MultiVersus, but some characters are in need of some minor tweaks.
According to MultiVersus director Tony Huynh, Batman will receive a large list of changes for the upcoming open beta. Here’s everything that’s changing with the Caped Crusader’s moveset:
- While in smoke Batman and allies ignore enemy projectiles
- Hitting with attacks while in smoke or 1 second after coming out of smoke will apply 5 stacks of weaken instead of 1
- Up air 2 applies an electric dot (damage over time) for a few seconds
- Weaken once applied increases damage and knockback from subsequent attacks to that same target by 5% per stack
- Made up air 1 go into 2 on hit more easily

Batman earned a solid place on our MultiVersus tier list, but his kit and abilities felt a bit underpowered compared to other fighters in the Closed Alpha. Thankfully, Batman is getting some major buffs in the next patch.
The most significant improvement is Batman applying 5 stacks of the weaken debuff instead of 1 when he hits enemies in smoke. Weaken will also increase damage and knockback from subsequent attacks to an affected target by 5% per stack, meaning enemies will take 25% more damage and be knocked back much further.
Batman will also get some minor tweaks to his abilities, such as the addition of an electric damage over time effect to his up air. His first up air attacks will also connect with his second up air attack more easily, making his aerial game a bit more reliable. He will also ignore enemy projectiles while inside smoke, allowing him to counter zoning characters and get the jump on enemies.
Also not sure if these will work, we'll go into testing and try them out.

While these changes sound promising, director Tony Huynh reiterated that the team is not sure if these will work after the testing period, so things are subject to change. The MultiVersus open beta is slated for July 2022, so players will get to test out these Batman changes and more very soon.
MultiVersus will be released in 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
