Metro Exodus: How to Get Out of the Railcar

Metro Exodus isn’t the type of game to hold your hand. While this latest entry in the famed shooter series does offer a better intro for new players, walking you through some of the more important things you have to know about the game, it doesn’t explain everything. Sometimes this is great, leading to emergent gameplay and players thinking on their feet. Other times it can be frustrating, leaving you stuck. One moment in particular can be especially frustrating, but we’re here to help. Here’s how to get out of the railcar in Metro Exodus.

You run into this little quandry early in your adventure across the irradiated wasteland of post-apocalyptic Russia. It’s near the end of the first major mission: Volga. Artyom is tasked with locating and returning to the Aurora a railcar that has been stored in a nearby warehouse. While you’ve used vehicles so far in your adventure, none operated like this one, and the controls are different as well. As you enter the railcar, holding X on Xbox One, Square on PS4, or E on PC like always, you might think you do the same to exit, but you are wrong.

In fact the answer to how to get out of the railcar in Metro Exodus is to double tap X, Square, or E to hop out. Even then you might be a bit stuck still, as the railcar has only the one opening, and it needs to be clear. Walls or other obstructions might prevent you from getting out, so just move it a few feet and try again. You’ll have to do this a few times on your journey back to the Aurora, as bandits pop up, or walls, or other obstructions. Just keep at it though and eventually you’ll make it.

Hopefully that helps explain how to get out of the railcar in Metro Exodus.
