NieR: Automata Guide: How To Fish

The fishing minigame was a big part of the original NieR, and fans of that game will be glad to know that it has returned for NieR: Automata. Thankfully, it’s less of a chore to take part in the pastime in this newest entry in the series, and it’s very easy to get started. This guide will show you how.

Once you’ve completed the opening segment of the game and have access to the game’s open world is when you will have access to fishing, which is very early in the game. All you need to do is find any body of water, and when you’re close enough to it your Pod will prompt you to start fishing. Hold the circle button and 2B will fling her Pod into the water to try and get a bite, as she summons a stool to get comfy while she waits.

It isn’t difficult at all to do well in the fishing minigame, as you just need to make sure that you pay attention to your Pod for signs of a bite. As soon as you start seeing your Pod splashing around rapidly is your sign that it got a bite, and that is your cue to hit the circle button to reel him in. If you did it right, you will have caught something for your troubles. If it was indeed a fish, then be sure to sell it at a shop, as it will usually get you some decent cash.

You shouldn’t have much trouble finding spots to fish, as you’ll find your first one right outside of the Resistance Camp in the City Ruins. Don’t just rely on that spot to go fishing, though, because each fishing spot has different potential rewards for you to get. While you’ll typically get fish for your troubles, some of the spots have the potential for you to get other things like weapons or pods.

That should get you up to speed on fishing in NieR: Automata. While the minigame can be boring as it is in many games, taking part in it from time to time is a great way to make some money, which always comes in handy.
