Pumpkaboo and Phantump on a Pokémon GO background

Pokémon GO: Pumpkaboo & Phantump – Size, Evolution, Shiny and How to Obtain

Recommended Videos

Pumpkaboo and Phantump have finally made their debut in Pokémon GO with part 2 of its ‘Halloween Mischief‘ event. Not only do they bring along their evolutions, Gourgeist and Trevenant, but also a brand-new ‘Size’ mechanic!

In this guide, we’ll explain how to evolve Pumpkaboo and Phantump in Pokémon GO, explain how the new size mechanic works, if they have a shiny and, of course, where to find them.

Pumpkaboo Size Explained

Pumpkaboo comes in four different sizes: Small, Average, Large and Super. Usually, a Pokémon’s height and weight can be seen when caught but doesn’t actually reflect how it looks. With Pumpkaboo, you will actually be able to see the size difference everywhere in-game, including on the ‘Nearby’ tab. Different sizes will also have different stats!

Gourgeist, Pumpkaboo’s evolution, also shares this same mechanic and its size will transfer over. Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist’s size differences count as separate forms in the Pokédex, similar to Pokémon like Deerling with its different seasonal forms, so you’ll want to catch one of each. In fact, the current Halloween Collection Challenge challenges the player to catch a Pumpkaboo of all four size variants.

Can Pumpkaboo and Phantump be Shiny in Pokémon GO?

No, neither Pumpkaboo nor Phantump can be shiny in Pokémon GO. The shiny form of Pokémon usually isn’t released when Pokémon make their first appearance and come at a later date. If you want to know what Pokémon can be shiny in the Halloween event, visit our Halloween Mischief Part 2 guide.

Where to Find Pumpkaboo and Phantump in Pokémon GO

Both Pumpkaboo and Phantump are spawning in the wild during the Halloween Mischief event. All four of Pumpkaboo’s sizes are available, with the bigger sizes being rarer.

Pumpkaboo and Phantump are also in 1-Star Raids, however, Pumpkaboo can only be in its ‘Average Size’ form if obtained via this method. Lastly, Phantump can be hatched from 7km eggs during the event, which are obtained from Gifts. It’s unknown whether Phantump and Pumpkaboo will appear in any capacity after this event.

How to Evolve Pumpkaboo and Phantump in Pokémon GO

Pumpkaboo and Phantump can both be evolved for free by receiving it in a trade. For example, both players trading a Pumpkaboo with each other will be able to evolve the Pumpkaboo they receive. If you can’t, or don’t want to, trade, it will cost you 200 of the respective Candy instead.

Pumpkaboo evolves into Gourgeist, while Phantump evolves into Trevenant. Neither is particularly fantastic in battle, but do have some fantastic designs! Good luck on hunting down Pumpkaboo and Phantump!
