Ubisoft is apparently now locking their single player content behind online passes, as is the case with Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. Some of the single player content in their latest Assassin’s Creed game is gated behind the U-Play Passport which comes with new copies of the game.

And it’s not a little part of the game that is tied away behind the pass. Without activating the U-Play Passport in Assassin’s Creed 4, players do not have access to one of the game’s primary pirating mechanics. Players cannot board ships and add them to their fleet unless they’ve entered their U-Play Passport code.

So if you want this feature in Assassin’s Creed 4, you’re gonna need 1) An online connection 2) A U-Play Passport.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag launched earlier this week to very good reviews on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
