Batman vs Superman Blu-ray Won’t Change Image Size During IMAX Scenes

If you bought The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises Blu-rays, you would have noticed the aspect ratio change when the movie showed the IMAX scenes. Sadly, this won’t be happening with the Batman vs Superman Blu-ray.

This was confirmed when a fan asked Batman vs Superman’s cinematographer, Larry Fong, on Twitter if the aspect ratio was going to change. He replied with: “Sadly, no (not my decision).

People will know already that TV screens are made differently from those seen in the cinema. This is why several Blu-rays/DVDs have the black bars at the top and bottom because a lot of filmmakers like to use the 2.40:1 aspect ratio.

IMAX is a bigger screen and uses the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and this is enough to fill out your entire TV screen without the black bars. IMAX scenes in Batman vs Superman looked great, but sadly it won’t be replicated when the Blu-ray comes out.

The only reason it might have been omitted is because some users got confused when the aspect ratio changed multiple times in The Dark Knight movies. Either that, or Zack Snyder prefers the standard 2.40:1 aspect ratio all of the time.
