Activision has just released the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Multiplayer Starter Pack on Steam. This new version of the game features just the multiplayer content from CoD: Black Ops 3, removing the single player campaign that many players might avoid, or just not want to spend the money on. The game costs just $14.99, whereas a full copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will run you $59.99. The pack is only available until February 29th though, so grab it while you can.

“The Multiplayer Starter Pack gives you access to Public Ranked Multiplayer matches and features including Weapon Paint Shop, Gunsmith, Arena, Freerun, Theater, and the Black Market.” Gamemodes and features not included in this limited package are “zombies game mode, campaign game mode, ability to play in Multiplayer custom games, ability to Prestige (your level will be capped at 55 in the Starter Pack), access to mod tools or modded content (once released), access to unranked server browser (once released), Ability to Fresh Start your profile, and the ability to access Dead Ops Arcade II and Nightmares mode.”

If you purchase the Multiplayer Starter Pack and decide that you would like to have the entire game, you can upgrade for $45, or $85 if you want the Digital Deluxe version. If the price of the main game goes down, the upgrade price will as well, with the page saying “At any time, you can upgrade to a full version of Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and the price you paid for the Starter Pack will automatically be deducted from the price of the full game or Digital Deluxe Edition.”

This version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 seems similar to the limited one released for PS3 and Xbox 360. Perhaps that is where the idea came from to release it on PC as well. While CoD has had some decent campaigns in the past, many players love it simply for the multiplayer. While not being able to Prestige will be a hindrance, this could save players some money.
