It appears that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2Â — or at least its campaign — is poised to get a remaster on the PlayStation 4 if recent developments are any indication.
Prior to the publishing of this article, there was a listing on the PEGI (Pan European Game Information board) website that had a listing for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered — as good an indication as any that Activision is likely planning to release a remastered title alongside this year’s release.
This isn’t the first time a remastered Call of Duty has been released in recent years. As you might recall, Modern Warfare Remastered was released alongside Infinite Warfare back in 2016, bringing an extensive remake of the original’s solo campaign and multiplayer component to modern platforms.
At the time, Activision came under heavy fire for forcing players to buy special editions of IW if they wanted the remaster. There was no option to get it bundled with a regular version or as a standalone initially, and though the publisher did finally offer such an option eventually, fans had to wait until June 2017 to see it happen.
In the meantime, Activision has yet to confirm the existence of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. If it does, it will be interesting to see if it follows in the footsteps of the remaster before it — being used as an incentive to push special editions of this year’s new CoD game. It might also be worth keeping an eye out to see whether rumored remaster will see a standalone version or a multiplayer later down the road.
In any event, the new CoD title will likely be announced in a few months, so we’ll surely have the answer to all our questions in due time.
