Fans of moody, atmospheric games have been anticipating the release of Below for quite some time. From Capy Games, the title has been generating good buzz for years. However, it has also seen a number of significant delays, pushing it well out of the range of most who were following it initially. There was hope though, with Capy giving a firm release date window of this Summer, but last night saw yet another delay, and this one could be a while.
“We told you BELOW would be out this summer,” reads the announcement from Capy. “Our team worked hard to make that deadline a reality. But after a strong push, we’ve decided it isn’t ready. We did a lot of soul searching. We knew we wanted to get it into your hands as soon as possible. We knew the game was there, and we’re super proud of it, but we also knew it needed more time to make sure it lives up to our studio’s standards, and the quality that you expect from our games. From the very beginning, BELOW has been our most ambitious undertaking, and we’re just not quite done excavating its depths, or polishing all of its facets.”
The developer has decided to not provide a new release date, instead simply saying that it is delayed indefinitely. They are still working on the game though, and it is moving toward its final release, but until then Capy has decided to “go dark”. They promise that the next time we all hear from them it will be to provide a firm, and hopefully final release date for Below.
They close with an explanation, and an apology to their fans. “Making games is hard but rewarding work. Accepting, even after this long development, that the game needs more time is difficult, but it’s important that we are honest with ourselves as creators, and with you, the players. We’re sorry we let you down with yet another delay. But in the end, we need to make certain that the hard work we’ve put into this game turns into something you’ll love, and to us that unfortunately means keeping BELOW in the oven a while longer, until it truly is ready. Thanks for the continued support, and see you on the other side.”
Below is a timed exclusive for Xbox One and PC.
