For the first time in nearly a decade, fans finally got to experience a brand new Star Wars movie with the release of Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens that opened yesterday. For those trying to avoid spoilers, you’d think that gaming would be a good alternative, but be very careful until you see the movie as that is no longer a safe haven.

Unlike the days where major secrets like the reveal of Darth Vader being Luke’s father in the original trilogy were able to stay under wraps for awhile, it is harder and harder to go dark leading up to a movies release, especially with trailers showing more.

Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens is full of spoilers galore and is something you certainly don’t want to be spoiled with, but some jerks are trying to ruin the fun for everybody in different ways. According to a few different warning threads on NeoGAF, there are people out there to ruin the movie by using gaming, especially with Star Wars Battlefront.

For those playing Star Wars Battlefront on PC, people are reportedly changing their in-game avatar to show major spoilers for the movie, so that if they win, their avatar is shown to everyone in the party.

The other method is even harder to avoid, as it really can happen in any game. One NeoGAF poster has revealed that he had someone find him from the list of recent players and message him with spoilers for the movie. While he doesn’t specify what game it is, this is something that could be from any matchmaking type game, so be careful.

If you are just sticking to offline gaming you will be more than fine, but otherwise tread lightly if you are going to be playing online until you see the movie.
