Crash Bandicoot is the Best Single-Platform Release of the Year in the UK

He was a PlayStation icon in the 90s, and three generations later, he is back on top. Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy enters at number 1 of the United Kingdom charts with bigger numbers than other big exclusives like Horizon: Zero Dawn or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Overall it would be the second-best launch of the year, only surpassed by Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands, which was released on PS4 and Xbox One.

Activision’s remake of the three original Crash Bandicoot games, developed by Naughty Dog back in the day, grants the series its first number 1 entry in the UK, which also happened to the Wipeout series a few weeks ago. It has also propelled the series to be the 24th best-selling franchise of all time in the country. In our review we described the game as “a fantastic remake of some of the best platformers of all time.”

During the weekend we got a very clear sign that N. Sane Trilogy was selling extremely well in the UK, when the title became the best selling game of the year in Amazon UK. A member of the development team recently said that Activision was open to the idea of a Crash Team Racing remake, an idea that is becoming more likely with every passing day.

Other new releases are Codemasters’ Micro Machines: World Series at number 2, and Elite Dangerous at number 7, which are also franchises that date back many generations ago. Down in the top 40 we find The Golf Club 2 entering at number 27, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered at number 32. Valkyria Revolution, the spin off of the strategy series Valkyria Chronicles, debuts at a low 34, following a similar cold reception in Japan.
