All the news is about Destiny 2, but right now players are still enjoying the fun of the original Destiny. That fun will have to take a little break today though. Bungie has announced that Destiny servers will go down later today for a few hours for some scheduled maintenance.
The downtime will begin at 9:30am Pacific Time, and is scheduled to last a few hours, ending at noon Pacific. This outage will not give players any major changes or additions to the game; it’s all backend stuff. Logins will stop working at the above time. However, players who are already logged in can stay in, at least for a little while. Bungie will be booting all players around 10am Pacific.
Destiny being an always online sort of experience has definitely caused it to have more maintenance windows like this than most games. Bungie has been good about announcing them in advance though. They also keep them at low population times, and usually hit their target for being back online. Hopefully they do that once again with this maintenance period and players can be back online right at, or before noon today.
It will be interesting to see if Destiny 2 has new architecture that avoids these sorts of down periods. We’ll find out when the game arrives on PS4 and Xbox One on September 8th, with PC hitting later.
