Bungie has officially announced a release date for its highly-anticipated, upcoming shooter. According to the company’s blog, Destiny will release worldwide on September 9, 2014. This will be the team’s first endeavor after leaving the Halo franchise to 343 Industries, and it certainly has a lot of gamers excited.
“Destiny has always represented a new beginning for our team. It was born from brave possibilities. We dreamed of a renewed and independent Bungie. We found partners willing to bet big on some crazy new ideas with us,” Bungie’s post said.
Those partners, of course, are mega-publishers Activision. Also announced today, the Destiny Beta will kick off in the Summer of 2014, and will be available to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 players first. It definitely makes since for Activision to release Destiny in September. That’s a full six months after EA’s colossal release of Titanfall in May and a couple months before the annual Call of Duty entry.
The real question, however, is the market about to become flooded with even more first person shooters? Or are Titanfall, Destiny and Call of Duty all different enough to survive in the same playspace? I guess we’ll find that answer out next year when Destiny launches on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
