The Star Wars Battlefront reboot could have had a different developer if DICE said they were too busy to make the game.
Official Xbox Magazine (via GamesRadar) interviewed Patrick Bach who is the general manager for DICE. Bach nearly turned down the chance to make the game simply because they were too busy.
Disney approached EA and it was suggested early on that DICE would be the perfect developer for a game like Star Wars Battlefront. However, Bach initially said “”argh, we can’t do that” because they were fully booked developing other games.
Developing a huge Star Wars game doesn’t come very often so Bach and DICE decided they will figure something out. This is because you don’t “say no to a project like that“.
Bach needed to allocate the right people for the job. He knew some people in DICE wanted to develop something else as they had been making Battlefield games for the better part of ten years. Others jumped to the chance to make anything related to Star Wars.
It would have been an interesting scenario to see if DICE did turn down the opportunity to develop Star Wars Battlefront. The game could have looked and felt different if another studio did it.
