According to DICE, the game development studio is working on other things besides Battlefield 4. Patrick Soderlund says that the Stockholm-based developer isn’t a “Battlefield Factory”, but is working on new IPs.
In a recent interview with OXM, Soderlund explained the diversification of the teams at DICE. “The DICE guys are roughly 300 people in the Stockholm studio; not all of them are working on Battlefield things, and that’s intentional, because we don’t want to become a Battlefield factory…For them to make great Battlefield games there need to be other things for them to do as well,” Soderlund says.
Could there be a team of developers toiling away on Mirrors Edge 2 in beautiful Frostbite 2 glory? Soderlund didn’t give any specifics, but we do know that Battlefield 4 is likely well underway. As for Mirror’s Edge 2, EA has hinted at the possibility of bringing the popular first person parkour title back, but has yet to make any official announcements.
What we can assume, is that these developers have numerous projects that are getting ready for a next generation release, whenever Microsoft and Sony get around to announcing their intentions. With many thinking it will be in 2013, it would be a pretty safe bet to assume DICE will have games at the ready.
