Director Hideaki Itsuno of Devil May Cry Hints at a New Game

Mostly known for Capcom‘s Devil May Cry series and Dragon’s Dogma, Director Hideaki Itsuno left 2016 with a cliff hanger by tweeting on his official twitter page December 31st.  His end-of-the-year message read, “Happy New Year! I exert myself in order to announce a new game this year. Thank you.”  Numerous comments have been made since by fans anticipating a new Devil May Cry game such as DMC 5 or even Dragon’s Dogma 2.  Fanart has been trending in the comment section demonstrating deep interest for more news.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary in summer 2016, the last Devil May Cry game was released in 2013 as a reboot developed by Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword, Hellsblade), DmC: Devil May Cry featuring a younger, hipster version of the main protagonist, Dante with a short haircut and sleek jeans.  Divided responses flooded in with the announcement of the reboot, newcomers praised it for its drastic changes while veterans preferred the older versions in both gameplay and character design. The game was followed by a remaster version of Devil May Cry 4 two years later adding both English and Japanese voice overs, upgraded visuals, new costumes, as well as 3 new playable characters, Dante’s brother Vergil (DMC 3), Trish, a mysterious woman who assists Dante (DMC 2), and Lady, a demon hunter.

Loosely based off of Dante Alligheri’s The Divine Comedy (not to confuse with Dante’s Inferno game) recounting the author’s experience through heaven and hell, Devil May Cry is an action adventure hack-and slash game debuting in 2001 for the PS2.  Players control Dante, a mixed breed of human and demon mercenary, out to exterminate monsters using his trustworthy guns, Ebony and Ivory, terrorizing the world.  It has been well received by the audience leading to several sequels, a prequel game, novels and animated series focusing on backstory.

The beginning of 2017 looks promising for video games developers indeed, sit tight for further details!
