After a massively successful Kickstarter campaign for Divinity: Original Sin, Larian Studios is heading back to the crowd funding platform for the newly announced sequel. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is set to hit Kickstarter on August 26th.
The original, which saw over 19,500 backers raise more than $900,000, was such a hit thanks to its adherence to classic RPG mechanics. Bringing back many elements of older, more hardcore PC RPGs, Divinity: Original Sin struck a cord with gamers who had felt neglected by recent RPGs that played more like action games, or didn’t feature the sort of robust gameplay they desired.
Its sequel, Divinity: Original Sin 2, is said to be Larian’s ” biggest and most ambitious RPG to date — one that will either sink us, or go on to be remembered as our best game ever!” As far as what those features will be that will make it such an ambitious game, the developer isn’t saying just yet, but it seems to be a major improvement over the original.
“Divinity: Original Sin 2 builds further on the foundations we’ve been laying with Divinity: Original Sin (D: OS), and Divinity: Original Sin – Enhanced Edition (D: OS EE),” said Larian Studios’ Swen Vicke. “For us, this allows for an unprecedented focus on the gameplay. We won’t be “losing time” building the elementary systems that typically take up more than 60% of our development time. Instead, we can start building the world immediately and try out all kinds of things.”
For this new campaign Larian Studios is bringing audience involvement to a new level, even crowd sourcing their backer rewards. On Larian’s website they are taking fan suggestions for potential backer rewards for Divinity: Original Sin 2, with the highest voted responses possibly making their way to the actual campaign.
