Duke Nukem Website Teasing An Announcement

While it has been awhile since we’ve heard from Duke Nukem, it looks like that could be changing very soon. A new countdown timer has appeared on the official Duke Nukem website, which is set to come to an end in just over a week and is accompanied by a banner that reads “Happy 20th Anniversary.”

While there isn’t much more information to go on, the countdown timer is set to end next weekend. This is notable as it would put it right in the middle of PAX West, where the developer is expected to be hosting a panel where they’ll be announcing new games. A new Duke Nukem Twitter account has also surfaced since then, and it is followed by developer Gearbox Software.

While this could end up being an entirely new Duke Nukem game, seeing as it’s the 20th anniversary we could be dealing with some new remaster of the original game. However, given that it’s been around 5 years since the last game and Gearbox has previously stated intentions to keep the series going, it’s entirely possible that we could be getting a new game.

Duke Nukem Forever was the last game in the series to be released, which launched for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC back in 2011. The game had an extremely long development period that lasted over 10 years, and the final product was one that did not come close to living up to the hype. However, the game’s troubled development process and the game being shuffled around to different developers was largely responsible for this.
