Epic Games’ Minecraft Co-op Survival Game Fortnite pops its head up

by William Schwartz

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Epic Games’ Fortnite. For the game’s initial reveal, we have to go all the way back to 2011. Fortnite may have went into hiding for a while but the co-op sandbox survival game has resurfaced with a new video this morning, giving a much better look at what to expect from the free-to-play title.

Fortnite is looking like a far cry from what we’ve come to expect from Epic Games in recent years. Building traps and forts to fight monsters and ultimately stay alive is something that we’ve seen become very popular lately, with the success of game’s like DayZ, Rust, Minecraft, and others.

Self described as a game where players and their friends control a group of Heroes to reclaim and rebuild a homeland that has been left empty by a mysterious darkness only known as “the Storm.” The key gameplay mechanics have players banding together online to explore the world for resources, build extravagant forts, find or build insane weapons and traps as they protect their towns from the strange monsters that emerge during the Storm.

Epic is currently taking applications to join the Fortnite Alpha, and if interested you can do so here.
