There are some big games on the horizon that have been anticipated by fans for years now, but two of the biggest are definitely the Final Fantasy 7 remake and Kingdom Hearts 3. Both of these Square Enix games have been in steady development and have gone without many updates in recent months, but now the man who is spearheading these projects has broken the silence.
Tetsuya Nomura recently did an interview with Famitsu where he discussed both the Final Fantasy 7 remake and Kingdom Hearts 3, where he revealed that they “still have a way to go” before either of the two games are released. He said that “We’re steadily progressing on production. While we are making them, I apologize that the wait will be be a bit longer for Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy VII Remake. I am very sorry, but to that degree I will make a game that will meet your expectations.”
Speaking specifically on Kingdom Hearts 3, he went as far as saying that there are entire worlds in the game that are unfinished. He said that “While I can’t make a sweeping statement because the development process is different from what we’ve done so far, there are still worlds untouched. Production is progressing on unannounced worlds, in a state that we cannot show them off. In terms of the state of development, there is still some way to go.”
Despite the update only really telling us that we’re nowhere near a release for either of these games, he did have some good news to share. He announced that “Last year, I didn’t put out much information on either title, but this year I want to show our progress at an event somewhere. The release of the titles themselves have still have a way to go. But there are many titles releasing this year, if you can wait for any ‘surprises.'”
While even release years for the Final Fantasy 7 remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 are unknown, both games will be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
