Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age Conquers UK Charts

Recommended Videos

Seems like a lot of RPG fans in the United Kingdom were anticipating their return to the world of Ivalice, as Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age for PS4 has taken the crown as the best selling game of the week in the country. The remastered edition of the classic PS2 game represents Square Enix’s first chart-topper since last year’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Final Fantasy XV had to settle for second place in its debut, as the launch coincided with the recent release of FIFA 17.

The news round up a fantastic launch for the game, which critics have been praising for its gameplay additions that improve the original formula. On our own review we described The Zodiac Age as “the shining example of how remasters should be — improving the game in multiple aspects while keeping the core gameplay intact.”

While Final Fantasy XII was the only major new release of the week, many games saw an important boost in sales thanks to Amazon’s Prime Day promotion. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, for example, climbed to number 2 with a stunning 440% increase in sales. Overwatch took number 4 with an 80% sales boost. Other titles with important increases were Forza Horizon 3 with 157% more sales, Minecraft: Xbox Edition with 289% more, Wipeout Omega Collection with 281%, Horizon: Zero Dawn with 89%, and Injustice 2, which rounds up the top 10 with a 95% jump.

For the first time since its release, there are no Nintendo Switch games inside the UK top 10, although this will most definitely change with the upcoming launch of Splatoon 2.
