He’d been teasing it for a while and the end result was totally worth the wait. The final Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer is out, showing not only the new game but all MGS games previous. The large amount of nostalgia for the previous titles was to be expected given the nature of this trailer.

This is certainly the last MGS V: The Phantom Pain trailer to be edited and directed by Hideo Kojima himself, and will most likely be the final one for the series as a whole. This is because Kojima is heavily rumored to be leaving Konami following the release of this title on September 1st.

Kojima not only created the Metal Gear series, he has had a direct hand in the development of all of the games, and even many of the trailers. An auteur by nature, Kojima took video games to a new level of cinematic quality. This focus on story-telling and visual fidelity was easily seen in the trailers for the MGS games, which would often be mini movies unto themselves.

This final trailer is said to not contain spoilers, though some elements have sparked some debate about whethere or not that is true. Watch at your own risk as, depending on how MGS V: The Phantom Pain’s story goes, there might be some spoilers contained here.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain launches on September 1st for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
