As promised, Cygames revealed another character part of Granblue Fantasy Versus’ roster, and his identity is no other than Lowain — and he’s bringing his friends (and delusions) along for the ride.
Lowain used to work in a restaurant until he met the Grancypher crew and Katalina — falling in love with her at first sight. As a result, he quit and joined the crew and is now a skyfarer along with his two best friends, Elsam and Tomoi, who followed right behind him.
Judging from what we see in the latest trailer, Lowain will be more of a tricky character who uses various means to get the jump on opponents. For instance, he can suddenly call for Elsam and Tomoi to jump in and attack his opponent, as well as jump on their back to give him some super armor while he pummels the opponent.
Most notably, his moveset makes references to “L.E.T.S. H.A.N.G.” and “Table for Six,” a pair of Lowain Bros.-focused events. Aside from the human pyramid he forms with his bros, he also summons a giant Yggdrasil (a nod to the delusional romance between her and Elsam) and Lady Katalina (the event’s “antagonist,” who later became a playable character following the event’s rerun). Hopefully, we’ll also see Freezie so Tomoi can have his delusional romance be present here too.
Announced last year during Granblue Fantasy Fes 2018, Granblue Fantasy Versus is an Arc System Works-developed fighter that will take many of the characters from the source material and pit them in combat against one another on a 2D plane. At the time, fans used the game’s logo to surmise who else might be added at a later date, and considering that one of those characters was Lowain, it’s likely that others mentioned back then might also make the cut.
Unfortunately, we’ll likely have to wait until Dec.13 when Granblue Fantasy Fes 2019 comes to see if that happens.
Granblue Fantasy Versus is due out worldwide for the PlayStation 4 in 2019.
