The Last Guardian was notably absent at this year’s Tokyo Game Show in Japan, yet Sony still insists that the game will arrive on the PlayStation 3. According to a report out of Kotaku, a Japanese developer told the website that the game “exists”.

“I give you my word that it exists,” said the unnamed developer. “There are lots of pieces of the puzzle. It’s a matter of getting them to fit together,” he concluded.

A sheer lack of any details about the new game and the exodus of Team Ico from the project has led many to believe that The Last Guardian has become vaporware. The Last Guardian was originally expected to arrive in 2011, but a troubled development process has obviously pushed the time table further than expected.

Earlier this year, Sony lost the full-time committment of the designer and director of the game.
